// The Problem
February hail. Tan shingles already past their prime. Insurance season just opened.
A late-February hailstorm tore through Trussville, hammering rooftops across the eastern Birmingham metro. The Patel home took its share of hits. The original tan shingles were already showing their age — streaked, weathered, granules wearing thin — but the hail took them past the point where repair made sense. The roof needed to be replaced before the next storm rolled through.
Urvashi got a text from FCRS the day after the storm. We were already running outreach across the impacted zip codes. Within 24 hours, our sales manager was at the door, drone in hand, ready to walk the roof.
// The Solution
A complete architectural shingle system, built to last decades.
Shingles
IKO Cambridge — Dual Brown
Architectural laminate shingles in IKO’s Dual Brown blend. Class A fire rating, 130 MPH wind warranty, algae-resistant granules. Looks great on Trussville’s mix of brick and siding homes.
Underlayment
Synthetic + Ice & Water
TopShield TS20 synthetic underlayment across the entire deck — stronger and longer-lasting than traditional felt. Ice & Water Defender membrane at the eaves and valleys, where water gets in first.
Ventilation
Owens Corning VentSure
Continuous ridge vent strip across the peak. Lets hot attic air escape so the roof runs cooler in summer and prevents moisture buildup that rots decking. The vent most Alabama homeowners are missing.
Edge Protection
6” galvanized drip edge
Black galvanized steel drip edge wrapped around every eave and rake. Keeps water away from the fascia and out of the attic. Code-compliant in Alabama and Georgia — not always installed by storm chasers.
// The Work
Tear-off, dry-in, install. One vetted crew. Seven days.
Day 1: full tear-off. Old shingles, old felt, old flashings — everything came off down to the decking. Crew tarped the landscaping, set up the dumpster on the driveway, and worked the roof in two halves so the home was never fully exposed.
Day 2: decking inspection and repair. We replaced damaged OSB sheathing where the storm had compromised it. Then ice & water shield went down at the eaves and valleys, followed by synthetic underlayment across the rest of the deck.
Days 3 through 7: starter strip, drip edge, then 100+ squares of IKO Cambridge laid course by course. Ridge vent installed at the peak. Magnetic nail sweep around the entire property. Final walk with the homeowner the morning after the last shingle went down.
// The Result
A roof rated to outlast the mortgage.
Urvashi paid the State Farm deductible. That was it. The full job — tear-off, decking repair, complete shingle system, ridge ventilation, debris haul-off — was covered by the insurance claim because we documented the damage to claim standards and met the adjuster on the roof.
Urvashi left a 5-star review on Google a few weeks later.

Free inspection. No pressure.
Same conversation we had with Urvashi — we walk your roof, document any storm damage to insurance claim standards, and tell you straight up whether you have a claim worth filing. If you do, we meet the adjuster on the roof and fight for the full scope.
